How to Start a Spark Chapter

GivingTuesday Spark is excited to announce Spark chapters ! With Spark chapters, youth leaders can work on generosity and service initiatives as a group! If individual generosity can impact the world, imagine how much impact and change we can inspire when youth leaders put their minds together! Spark chapters will foster collaboration and innovation to unleash more generosity!

What do GivingTuesday Spark chapters do?

Spark chapters are a way for youth to lead generosity initiatives together instead of individually, while being supported by GivingTuesday Spark and having access to GivingTuesday resources and global community of changemakers who are ready to network and collaborate. The chapter would have autonomy over what type of generosity or service initiative that it would want to lead as long as it promotes generosity and doesn’t encourage hate, violence, or discrimination. You could find examples of generosity projects or initiatives on our website, in case you need some ideas or inspiration!

What are the requirements?

Spark chapters should lead some type of generosity initiative or service project on the annual GivingTuesday day of giving. This year, the annual GivingTuesday day will be November 28, 2023. Spark chapters should also be consistently spreading generosity year round,

Spark chapters should stay in regular contact with GivingTuesdaySpark about their accomplishments, struggles, and next steps.

Spark chapters should be actively spreading the word about GivingTuesday Spark to encourage more youth to give back (we’ll give you the tools to do this).

How will it work?

There are two common paths to form a Spark Chapter:

Young Adult-Led: You and your friends are interested in doing something good for the world. Send us an email letting us know that you’d like to start a Spark Chapter and we will get the ball rolling so you can join our supportive network of changemakers and our global movement of generosity.

Adult Led: You are a teacher or youth advisor and you’ve rallied a group of youth to collectively participate in generosity or giving but want to amplify your group’s voice and reach. Send us an email letting us know that you’d like to start a Spark Chapter and we will get the ball rolling so you can join our supportive network of changemakers and our global movement of generosity. You will be considered a GivingTuesday community campaign leader and will be connected with the other community leaders in our global movement. For more specific information, on your responsibilities as an adult leading a Spark chapter, look here.

What else should I know about Spark chapters?

GivingTuesday will declare a theme, bi-annually. Spark leaders and Spark chapters will be encouraged (but not mandated) to lead a generosity or service initiative (independent of what they’re already focusing on) related to that theme. Even when our chapters and leaders are bringing generosity to the world in their own ways, we can all still be working towards a common goal as GivingTuesday Spark and working towards making the proper annual GivingTuesday the most impactful that it can be.
